Meet Our Instructors

  • Jane Christie

    Romana's Pilates Certified Instructor

For Jane Christie, Pilates has been a life-changing journey. From the moment she started practicing, she discovered new strength, flexibility, and confidence, inspiring her to shift careers and share Pilates with others. As co-founder of Bermuda Bodyworks Ltd., Jane now helps her students transform their lives, seeing them leave the studio more energized and with improved posture.

Jane began her Pilates journey in 1997, becoming a Guild Certified Pilates Instructor under Romana Kryzanowska in New York. A former midwife, Cordon Bleu Cook, and one of Bermuda’s premier runners—including a May 24th Winner—Jane recognized the need for authentic Pilates in Bermuda. Along with her partner, Cal Bean, she founded Bermuda Bodyworks, which has become the island’s leading Pilates studio, dedicated to delivering the pure method of Pilates to her community.

  • Andres Bacigalupo

    Romana's Pilates Certified Instructor

Andres has been a dedicated Romana's Pilates instructor since January 2018. Originally from Chile, Andres completed his certification between True Pilates Chile and Fort Lauderdale, where he fell in love with the classical Pilates method and its many benefits. With a background in veterinary science, Andres discovered Pilates during a work and holiday experience in Canada from 2015 to 2017. His passion for Pilates led him to further training in Romana’s Pilates upon returning to Chile.

Andres is committed to helping each client achieve their best, drawing from his continuous education through workshops with master teachers of Romana's Pilates. When he’s not in the studio, Andres enjoys staying active through hiking, swimming, and exploring the outdoors. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Andres ensures that his Pilates sessions are accessible and enjoyable for all.

OUR PILATES METHOD

A Holistic Approach To Strength and Control

At Bermuda Bodyworks, we adhere strictly to the original Pilates method as developed by Joseph Pilates. This method, detailed in his book Return to Life through Contrology, emphasizes controlled movements that, when practiced consistently, enhance flexibility, strength, and overall body control. Our practice focuses on proper alignment, deep breathing, and developing a strong core—known as the "powerhouse"—which includes the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and hips. This approach is integral to all our sessions, allowing us to tailor the intensity and exercises to suit your individual needs, from beginner to advanced levels. Through this method, we ensure that every client experiences the full benefits of authentic Pilates.

"Pilates is the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit."

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In your first Pilates class, you can expect a gentle introduction to the basic principles of Pilates, including breath control, core engagement, and proper alignment. Your instructor will guide you through a series of exercises, either on a mat or using specialized equipment, designed to help you become familiar with the movements.

  • Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely and lets your instructor see your body alignment. Pilates is typically done barefoot or in grip socks, so no special footwear is required.

  • No previous experience is necessary to start Pilates. Classes are designed to accommodate all levels, and exercises can be modified to suit your fitness level. Beginners are welcome, and instructors will provide guidance to help you get started safely and effectively.

  • For optimal results, it’s recommended to practice Pilates 2-3 times per week. Consistent practice helps build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance posture over time. Even with just one session a week, you can start to notice positive changes in your body.

  • Mat Pilates involves exercises performed on a mat using your body weight for resistance. Equipment-based Pilates utilizes apparatus like the Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair, which provide additional resistance and support for more varied and targeted exercises. Both approaches offer unique benefits, and many people choose to combine them for a balanced workout.
